The Northwell Health Genomics Alliance streamlines and standardizes the ordering and reporting of genomic and genetic testing for the Northwell Health System. Through this alliance, genomic data will be centralized and detailed with relevant clinical information which will provide richer information on test utilization and patient management to drive proper genomics-driven care.

Genomic and genetic testing will be performed by BioReference Laboratories and its specialty business units (GeneDx, GenPath Oncology, and GenPath Women’s Health). Genetic testing is available for rare constitutional disorders, hereditary cancer syndromes, prenatal diagnosis, carrier screening, and tumor sequencing.

Inquiries regarding testing offered through the Northwell Health Genomics Alliance should be directed to the Northwell Health Core Laboratory Customer Service department at (516) 719-1100. The Northwell Health Customer Service team will be able to assist with most inquiries including testing logistics, supplies, and billing. If there are specific technical inquiries regarding a genomic test of interest, the Northwell Customer Service team can transfer those inquiries to the BioReference Customer Service team dedicated to the Northwell Health Genomics Alliance.

Specimens for genomic and genetic testing should be submitted through the Northwell Health Core Laboratory. Northwell Health couriers will perform the specimen pick-up and specimens that need to go to BioReference Laboratories will be re-directed the same day by the Core Laboratory.

Through the Northwell Health Genomics Alliance website, a live chat function is available Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 8 PM. If you have a question regarding the genetic test selection for a patient or scheduling a genetic counseling appointment for a patient, you can live-chat with a BioReference Genetic Counselor through the secure chat function. General test inquiries can also be submitted through the online chat and will be responded to by a BioReference Customer Service representative.
Genetic counseling appointments can be scheduled with a BioReference Genetic Counselor through the Northwell Health Genomics Alliance website’s live chat function Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 8 PM. Additionally, BioReference’s dedicated Customer Service department for the Northwell Health Genomics Alliance can be reached at (888) 729-1203 to schedule a Genetic Counseling appointment. Please have the patient name, date of birth, and specimen ID for the report in question readily available when scheduling a genetic counseling appointment.

Our Chat function allows users to have a real-time conversation with our board-certified genetic counselors. In order to protect PHI, users must log into our secure portal before discussing patient information. To log in, click the LOGIN icon on the top right corner of the Home page.  A login is required to:

  • Schedule a genetic counseling appointment for a patient
  • Discuss appropriate genetic test selection for a patient
  • Evaluate the personal and family history of a patient

Patient information cannot be discussed via Chat if you have not logged into our secure portal. However, it is not necessary to log in for discussions that do not involve PHI. In these incidences, a customer service team member dedicated to the Northwell Health Genomics Alliance partnership is also available for Chat. A login is not required for questions regarding:

  • Clinical utility of a genomic test offered through the Alliance
  • Specimen requirements for genomic and genetic testing 
  • All inquiries about the Alliance, including testing logistics and supplies
