Renal Disorders

While most renal disorders are not hereditary, some kidney conditions have known hereditary genetic components. Congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract anatomy represent approximately 30% of all prenatally diagnosed malformations and many congenital kidney disorders are due to single gene defects. It is also becoming clear that some adult-onset kidney diseases, which are much more common than congenital kidney diseases, are associated with risk alleles, or genetic variants that are linked to an increased risk of developing certain diseases.
